Is your dog protected against Leptospirosis?
Leptospirosis (Lepto) is a serious disease that infects animals and humans. The disease is spread through an infected animal's urine - especially in surface water like puddles, lakes, streams, etc. It can also be spread by contact with the skin or mucous membranes of an infected animal.
Leptospirosis can cause fever, jaundice, weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, kidney failure and even death in dogs. In humans, the disease can cause flu-like symptoms, but can become life-threatening.
Cases in our area are increasing in frequency. Because of this, we now recommend that almost all dogs are vaccinated against this disease on a yearly basis. Feel free to contact our office for additional information.
