We're pleased to offer the following services at Nipomo Dog & Cat Hospital
At least once a year your pet should have a full physical exam even if he or she appears healthy. The physical exam along with your observations of your pet can reveal disease processes that might have otherwise been undiscovered. The annual exam gives our team the opportunity to educate you about the latest in veterinary care that your pet could benefit from. If indicated we may recommend lab work or radiographs or a follow-up visit. We will also ensure your pet is current on all necessary vaccinations.
Cats and dogs can develop many different diseases. Those conditions that are non-surgical are the focus of Internal Medicine. We use a combination of our physical exam and lab work, radiographs and ultrasound to diagnose conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disease, cancer, and infectious diseases.
Once the diagnosis has been reached we will work with you to find the best treatment for you and your pet.
Imaging available at our practice includes digital x-rays, digital dental x-rays and ultrasound. We have the ability to send our digital images to a veterinary radiologist for further evaluation. Our radiologist has an office in Grover Beach where he performs ultrasounds of the abdomen and the chest when indicated.
Dogs and cats may develop cancer in their lifetime. Some cancers are amenable to surgery while others do well with chemotherapy. Some animals need both. Our doctors are comfortable treating many types of cancer at our hospital using both surgery and chemotherapy.
In human medicine the treatment of cancer is intended to cure the disease therefore the side effects of chemotherapy can be uncomfortable. In veterinary medicine we seek quality of life and comfort for our patients and do not use as aggressive therapy.
Like us, many dogs and cats suffer dental disease. Just like humans, each dog or cat will have a different degree of tartar, inflammation, and infection in their mouth. Part of a complete physical exam is an oral exam. We will inform you of the degree of dental disease and what should be done to correct it. The combination of dental x-rays, a thorough exam and cleaning under anesthesia, and possible extractions may drastically improve the life of your pet.
We perform many different types of surgery at Nipomo Dog & Cat Hospital . We repair cuts, fix broken bones, clean infected wounds, and remove cancerous tumors. We are fortunate to have several excellent surgeons on our staff. For more complicated surgeries we invite Dr. Dan Terhaar to perform surgery in our hospital.
We will always try to accommodate all appointment requests. We understand that you are busy and that your pet’s care is important. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call. It is best to call before coming in so a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency and we can prepare appropriately for your arrival.
We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get a regular appointment, our veterinarians will work to see you in between scheduled appointments or during our lunch hour! When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.
